Q: How many trips from the house to the camper does it take to prepare for an epic journey?
 
A: At least one more...


Q: What is the number of cross words between the two of you during the preparation process? 
 
A: Zero. Zip. Nil. Nada.

 

Q: Who is going to drive, and who is going to navigate?
 
A: Dave will drive initially, but Kathy hopes to get in some practice on the Interstate. Kathy will navigate most of the trip. 

 

Q: Where will you be staying along the way?
A: Most of our reservations are at State Parks and Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds, but also a few private campgrounds (KOA, a Baptist Church parking lot, and a beachfront RV resort right on the Pacific Ocean!) We do not intend to "boondock" or "dry camp" unless we have to.


Q: When did you have to make the reservations?
A: Most were made 6 months in advance. However, the RV resort in LA will not take reservations until 3 months out. We hope they have room for us!


Q: Why on earth are you doing this?
A: David: We want to see the USA, especially the western states, and we love to camp!
A: Kathy: We have never done this kind of thing before and we have a new grandson arriving in California soon! Shout out to Coen!

The Last Week The calendar is our enemy. Day by day it steals irretrievable seconds. It reminds us we have only one more campsite before home. I sit here bawling like a baby, trying to stop the tears, not wanting this fabulous journey to end. Then I'm reminded of the experiences that never made it into the blog. Final Push

Buggy and Muggy - Must be Florida   After withstanding 4 days of country music blaring from fishing boats and party barges at Army Corps of Engineers lakes, we arrived back in Florida. We are camping at Falling Waters State Park in Chipley. It's a small park, well kept, with the state's tallest waterfall at 73 ft. However, the elevation at the top of the falls is only about 40 ft. What?? How can that be? The waterfall bottoms out in a deep sinkhole!  A number of steps gets you to this platform for better waterfall viewing.   The sinkhole at the bottom of the falls Also at Falling Waters SP, there is a nice little beach area with picnic tables on a large pond. Love this sign right next to the roped-off swimming area. "Do not swim with alligators." Duh. Other fun sights on this final push home: Mary is a palm reader. If you’re stuck in a puddle…

 It wouldn't be camping if... ...something didn't go wrong. So let's just get it out of the way on the first day or so. Remember my mantra? Well, it's a good thing there was a Wal*Mart Super-center in Eufaula, Alabama.  "Eufaula?" you ask. Yes. Our first 2 nights were spent at the Lakepoint Resort State Park. Now, "resort" is pushing it a bit. It's a glorified fish camp on a reservoir created by damming the Chattahoochee River. We felt a bit out of our element, not having a Ranger fishing boat strutting its stuff on the lake. But I digress.  We pull in, get the camper set up, and begin placing those all-important camping essentials around the vehicle - waterproof rug to mark our territory outside the camper door, cooler with frosty libations, raised dog bed (Trooper hates to have pine needles sticking in his floof), small table, and camping chai.. - wait, what?
